In 2019, House Congressional Resolution 52, supported by 103 U.S. Representatives listed below, declared that "there is a climate emergency which demands a massive-scale mobilization to halt, reverse, and address its consequences and causes."
The following summary is meant to show some bit of precedence in Congress for our Petition. More importantly though, it's meant to show how our Petition and its Plan takes Resolution 52 up to a whole new, broader, deeper, more effective level!
Which is to say, as we hope you'll see below, our Petition and Plan has a much better chance of galvanizing this mobilization, making it sustainable through future elections, while making it more effective against what we face.
- House Congressional Resolution 52 , with the best of intentions, did accurately outline various aspects of the climate emergency, and made excellent arguments for a massive national mobilization, which deserves credit at least.
- Unfortunately, it had several key shortcomings which our Petition and Plan strive to avoid. Crucially it didn't accompany a nationally publicized, televised, streamed, on-radio presentation meant to persuade and build a consensus amongst the public and Congress, sustainable through future elections, that we need to make reducing global warming more profitable than polluting!
- Nor did it offer any way to actually reduce global warming, its primary target. Indeed, the Resolution failed to point out that Global Warming/Climate Emergency, with its exacerbated storms, floods, droughts, and fires, functions as a Huge, Very Costly , Unacknowledged, Unvoted-On, Financial and Emotional, Indirect, "Backdoor" Tax and Burden on our society, and existing/deferred tax on our children!
- This very concept of Global Warming itself being a Tax, broadened in our Plan to include Pollution in all its forms, is in our view one of the keys to persuading the American public of the following:
- Given tax has become such a dirty word for so many people and politicians, and the very word that has done so much to sink carbon tax proposals, it will come as a shock to many climate-deniers that there's already a huge, unacknowledged, unvoted-on, financial and emotional tax that they and we as a society are already paying for!
- And that would be Pollution in all its forms, levied on us by polluters and companies making both pollutants and larger profits at our and everyone else's expense.
- Unlike regular, voted-on taxes which build up and maintain public health, safety and infrastructure, the Unacknowledged, Unvoted-on Very Costly, Pollution Tax does the exact opposite!
- It damages, degrades and destroys public health, safety, and infrastructure as well as private homes and businesses,
- It emotionally taxes families with the stress and suffering coming from missed time from work and school, and pollution-caused or exacerbated sickness and shortened lives
- Not to mention it's an existential national security threat as our current Secretary of Defense quoted in the 2022 U.S. Army Climate Strategy on page 4 of this pdf said, "We face all kinds of threats in our line of work, but few of them truly deserve to be called existential. The climate crisis does. …Climate change is making the world more unsafe and we need to act.”
- In short, our Plan's National Emergency Presentation will call out the Very Costly Pollution Tax as the by far worst tax of all --- after all who's ever gotten asthma, cancer or had their home, business or community burn down or flooded because of income, property or sales tax?
- It will also show our need to reflect its true costs by taxing it out of existence before it taxes us out of our civilized existence.
- In addition, showing those who are against taxes that there's this worst backdoor tax of all that they and their children are paying for with their money and health, in an emotional judo flip, uses their previous hostility to the word and concept of tax to flip them into now opposing the by far worst tax of all -- the Pollution Tax that threatens their children, community and the sustainability of America and our modern civilization.
